Ubuntu Understanding
Many artists have covered Sly & The Family Stone’s hit Everyday People, but y’all already know I think the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin did it best! Yep, another ‘classic 90s track’ is giving me good weekend vibes as I meditate on Ubuntu this dayclean QueenSiS.
In many African societies, Ubuntu refers to the interconnectedness and interdependence of humanity; the term is translated as “I am because we are.” In this troubling time of erasing equity, I’m giving thanks and cultivating grace for valuing different people, paths, and perspectives in humanity. Just thinking about all of the differences in characteristics, belief systems, physical attributes, family background and more among Black women alone makes me appreciate how important it is to let people be who they are, so I can be who I am! #IAmWe
