Black is Beautiful

The exceptional Esperanza Spaulding’s Black Gold is one beautiful anthem in a line of many reminding us black is beautiful no matter what society suggests. And give thanks for other reminders that I reflect the fullness of Divine Beauty inside and out.

I’m so grateful to have encountered the Black Madonna - black images of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child - several years ago. For centuries, Black people the world over have been socialized through colonization to operate as though black is not beautiful, rich, intelligent, royal and certainly not divine. But give thanks I get to live in this wonderful time to recall and reclaim, and then to teach and the truth about the divine beauty in our Black African heritage. #BlackBeauty
