Gather Together
Coming up on the last official summer holiday and I’m meditating on our family and community gathering traditions. The iconic brother Bob Marley and The Wailers’ One Love tells us let’s get together and feel alright, and I’m learning there is so much more to these get togethers than fun.
In the vein of African oral tradition, much of our story, values, and knowledge depend on the strength of our get togethers. The reunions and festivals and even celebrations of life are times for us to pass on priceless and intangible treasures to the next generation. I feel like the future’s elders will not develop into who we will need them to be if they don’t have these knowledge transfer opportunities. Praying for the health, strengthening, and continuity of our gatherings. #LetsGetTogether
