Self-Determination

The iconic Janet Jackson’s Control is setting the soundtrack for my dayclean meditation QueenSiS. I’m thinking about who or what has the most control over my life choices and chances, and my narratives.

Historically Black women have been subject to forced external control over body, labor, and story. Our Ancestor Mothers resisted and rebelled as best they could. I believe their sacrifices and struggles paved the way and provided the blueprint. The external pressures are still there, but I give thanks for now being in a much stronger position to demand self-determination, for myself and the next generation. #DeterminedSelf
